카바레에서 춤추는 블루스 아닙니다. -_-;;;

음악 장르 중 하나인 블루스 얘기입니다. ㄷㄷㄷ

1. Most Blues begin, "Woke up this morning."

대부분의 블루스는 이렇게 시작한다. '아침에 일어나보니...'


2. "I got a good woman"
is a bad way to begin the Blues,
'less you stick something nasty in the next line, like
" I got a good woman, with the meanest face in town."

"착한 여자를 사귀었지"는 블루스를 시작하는데 적절치 않다.
뒤에 심술궃은 문장을 추가하지 않는다면 말이다.
"착한 여자를 사귀었지. 동네에서 제일 못생긴 여자였어"


3. The Blues is simple.
After you get the first line right, repeat it.
Then find something that rhymes ... sort of:
"Got a good woman - with the meanest face in town. Got teeth like Margaret Thatcher - and she weigh 500 pound."

블루스는 단순하다. 첫 소절만 제대로 시작했다면 운만 맞춰서 반복하면 된다.
"착한 여자를 사귀었지. 동네에서 제일 못생긴 여자였어. 마가렛 대처같은 이빨을 가지고 있었고, 몸무게는 500파운드라네"


4. The Blues are not about choice.
You stuck in a ditch, you stuck in a ditch;
ain't no way out.

블루스는 선택에 대한 노래가 아니다.
당신은 궁지에 빠졌고, 또 궁지에 빠졌다.
빠져 나갈 길은 없다.


5. Blues cars: Chevys and Cadillacs and broken-down trucks.
Blues don't travel in Volvos, BMWs, or Sport Utility Vehicles.
Most Blues transportation is a Greyhound bus or a southbound train.
Jet aircraft an' state-sponsored motor pools ain't even in the running.
Walkin' plays a major part in the blues lifestyle.

블루스 자동차 : 시보레, 캐딜락, 망가진 트럭. 블루스는 볼보나 BMW 같은 데서는 부를 수 없다.
대부분의 블루스에서 이동수단은 고속버스, 혹은 남부행 열차이다.
제트기나 관용자동차도 블루스의 교통수단이 아니다. 걷기가 블루스의 주요 이동수단이다.


6. Teenagers can't sing the Blues.
They ain't fixin' to die yet. Adults sing the Blues.
In Blues, "adulthood" means being old enough to get the electric chair if you shoot a man in Memphis.

애들은 블루스를 할 수 없다. 걔네는 죽을 준비가 되지 않았다.
어른들은 블루스를 할 수 있다.
블루스에서 "성인"이라 함은 멤피스에서 누군가를 쏴죽였을 때 전기 의자에 앉아 사형당할 만한 나이를 먹은 사람이다.


7. Blues can take place in New York City
but not in Hawaii or any place in Canada.
Hard times in St. Paul or Tucson is just depression.
Chicago, St. Louis, and Kansas City still the best places to have the Blues. You cannot have the blues in any place that don't get rain.

블루스는 뉴욕에 있을 수 있다. 그러나 하와이나 캐나다에서는 있을 수 없다.
세인트폴이나 투손의 사람들도 힘든 시기는 있겠지만 그런건 그냥 우울한거지 블루스가 아니다.
세인트루이스나 캔사스 같은 도시는 블루스를 위한 최고의 도시이다. 비가 오지 않는 곳에서 블루스는 있을 수 없다.


8. A man with male pattern baldness ain't the blues.
A woman with male pattern baldness is.
Breaking your leg cuz you skiing is not the blues. Breaking your leg cuz an alligator be chomping on it is.

남자의 남성형 탈모증(머리가 이마부터 벗겨지는 것)은 블루스가 아니다.
여자의 남성형 탈모증은 블루스다.
스키 타다가 다리가 부러지는 것은 블루스가 아니다. 악어한테 씹혀서 다리가 부러지는 것은 블루스다.


9. You can't have no Blues in an office or a shopping mall. The lighting is wrong. Go outside to the parking lot or sit by the dumpster.

사무실이나 쇼핑몰에는 블루스가 없다. 조명발이 안 받쳐준다. 밖으로 나가서 주차장으로 가거나 쓰레기장으로 가라.


10. Good places for the Blues:
블루스를 하기에 좋은 장소들

a. highway : 고속도로
b. jailhouse : 감옥
c. empty bed : 텅빈 침대
d. bottom of a whiskey glass : 위스키잔의 바닥

Bad places:
블루스를 하기에 나쁜 장소들

a. Ashrams : 힌두교의 수련 장소
b. gallery openings : 전시회 개막식
c. Ivy League institutions : 아이비리그 대학들
d. golf courses : 골프장


11. No one will believe it's the Blues if you wear a suit, 'less you happen to be an old ethnic person, and you slept in it.
당신이 신사복을 입었다면 블루스가 아니다. 만일 당신이 제3세계 출신 늙은이인데 신사복을 입은 채 잠들어 있다면 그것은 블루스다.



12. Do you have the right to sing the Blues? Yes, if:
아래에 해당된다면 블루스를 할 자격이 있다.

a. you're older than dirt
당신은 늙고 지저분하다
b. you're blind
장님이다
c. you shot a man in Memphis
멤피스에서 누군가를 쏴죽였다
d. you can't be satisfied
당췌 만족할 수 없다.

No, if :아래에 해당된다면 자격이 없다.

a. you have all your teeth
치아가 모두 건강하다.
b. you were once blind but now can see
한때 맹인이었지만 지금은 아니다.
c. the man in Memphis lived.
멤피스에서 누군가를 쏘았으나 그는 두눈 멀쩡히 뜨고 살아 있다.
d. you have a retirement plan or trust fund.
노후계획이 있거나 트러스트 펀드를 가지고 있다.


13. Blues is not a matter of color.
It's a matter of bad luck.
Tiger Woods cannot sing the blues. Gary Coleman could.
Ugly white people also got a leg up on the blues.

블루스는 인종의 문제가 아니다. 그것은 '불운'에 대한 것이다.
타이거 우즈는 블루스를 할 수 없다. 게리 콜먼은 할 수 있었을 것이다.
불운한 백인도 역시 가능하다.


14. If you ask for water and Baby give you gasoline,
it's the Blues.

You can't have a Blues death if you die during a tennis match or getting liposuction.

싸구려 여관이나 통나무집에서 죽는다면 블루스 죽음이다. 질투심 많은 애인에게 등을 찔려 죽는 것도 블루스이다.
전기의자에서 죽거나 약물남용 혹은 망가진 침대에서 홀로 죽는 것도 역시 블루스이다.
테니스 경기 중에 죽거나 지방흡입수술 중에 죽는 것은 블루스가 아니다.

18. Persons with names like Sierra, Sequoia, Auburn, and Rainbow can't sing the Blues no matter how many men they shoot in Memphis.
시에라, 세콰이어, 오번 혹은 레인보우 같은 이름을 가진 사람들은 멤피스에서 사람을 죽였다고 해도 절대로 블루스를 할 수 없다


19. Make your own Blues name (starter kit)
당신만의 블루스 이름을 만들어 보자.

a. name of physical infirmity
(Blind, Cripple, Lame, etc.)
신체적 질병/장애 이름에(맹인, 절름발이 등...)

b. first name
plus name of fruit (Lemon, Lime, Kiwi,etc.)
과일 이름을 더하라.

c. last name of President
(Jefferson, Johnson, Fillmore, etc.)
성은 역대 대통령의 이름으로 한다.


For example, Blind Lime Jefferson,
or Cripple Kiwi Fillmore, etc.

20. I don't care how tragic your life:
you own a computer, you cannot sing the blues.
You best destroy it. Fire, a spilled bottle of Mad Dog, or get out a shotgun. I don't care.
당신의 인생이 얼마나 비극적이냐에 나는 관심이 없다.
당신이 컴퓨터를 가지고 있는 이상 블루스를 할 수 없다.
그것을 부숴버려라. 아니면 불태우거나, 매드독 한 병을 쏟아붓거나, 기관총으로 쏴버려라.
